ProPresenter actions allow you trigger events base on the click of a slide. When connected to Bitfocus Companion, these triggers can also remotely control CaptionKit.

Get the button details in Companion

If you haven't already set up CaptionKit with Companion before, follow this guide. Once you have a button configured, note down the page, row and column number - these are shown on the top of the button, for example: 1/0/1

Turn on RossTalk in Companion

Navigate to the settings page, then scroll down the Settings area until you reach RossTalk. Make sure that RossTalk Listener is turned on and note down the port number.

Connect ProPresenter to RossTalk

  • Open ProPresenter settings/preferences

  • Select Devices in the sidebar

  • Add a new device and select RossTalk

  • Click to edit the new device and configure the following settings:

    • Hardware Network (TCP)

    • Behavior = Controller

    • Action = Connect To

    • Via = Any

    • Address = localhost

    • Port = Port number from the previous step

Connect the RossTalk device

Close the edit screen and return to the device list screen

Click Connect on the new RossTalk item

Once connected, the device will show a green indicator on the left

Set up the action on a slide

Find the slide you would like to add the CaptionKit action to, then right click and select: Add Action > Communication > RossTalk > Custom Control

A popup will appear below the slide. Select Command = Custom Control then add CC and the button reference from Companion. For our example, we add CC 1/0/1 to trigger page 1, row 0, column 1.

Once this is added, click the slide to trigger the button in Companion. If you have any trouble, try checking the Logs tab in Companion to see if it is receiving signals from Pro Presenter.
