Granting Microphone Permissions for Firefox

Before enabling audio permissions for CaptionKit in Firefox, you may first need to give Firefox audio permissions from your system settings.

For Firefox users on Mac OS

  1. Go to your System Settings. Click Privacy & Security, then Microphone.
  2. Toggle on Firefox.
  3. When asked to restart your Firefox application please choose “Quit & Reopen”. If you happen to click “Later”, restart the application to make sure your microphone permissions are updated.

For Firefox users on Windows

  1. Go to your Microphone permissions in System Settings.

    • In Windows 10, go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone
    • In Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone
  2. Enable microphone access for Firefox

    • In Windows 10, ensure that Microphone access for this device and Allow desktop apps to access your microphone. are turned on.
    • In Windows 11, ensure that Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone. are turned on.

Giving CaptionKit audio permissions

  1. Open the CaptionKit dashboard at app.captionkit.io (opens in a new tab) and log in to your account
  2. If you haven't already enabled microphone access, click the Allow audio access button

  1. Once clicked, a pop-up will appear asking for permission to use your microphone. Select a an input and click Allow to grant permission.

  1. If you have previously clicked Block you can update this by clicking on microphone icon in the address bar and clicking Blocked Temporarily ✕, then clicking on Try again.

  1. You should now be ready to use CaptionKit 🥳
