Granting Microphone Permissions for Chrome

Before enabling audio permissions for CaptionKit in Chrome, you may first need to give Chrome audio permissions from your system settings.

For Chrome users on Mac OS

  1. Go to your System Settings. Click Privacy & Security, then Microphone.
  2. Toggle on Google Chrome.
  3. When asked to restart your Chrome application please choose “Quit & Reopen”. If you happen to click “Later”, restart the application to make sure your microphone permissions are updated.

For Chrome users on Windows

  1. Go to your Microphone permissions in System Settings.

    • In Windows 10, go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone
    • In Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone
  2. Enable microphone access for Chrome

    • In Windows 10, ensure that Microphone access for this device and Allow desktop apps to access your microphone. are turned on.
    • In Windows 11, ensure that Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone. are turned on.

Giving CaptionKit audio permissions

  1. Open the CaptionKit dashboard at app.captionkit.io (opens in a new tab) and log in to your account
  2. If you haven't already enabled microphone access, click the Allow audio access button

Mac

  1. Once clicked, a pop-up will appear asking for permission to use your microphone. Click Allow on every visit to grant permission.

Mac

  1. If you have previously clicked Never allow you can update this by clicking on microphone icon in the address bar and selecting Always allow https://app/captionkit/io (opens in a new tab) to access your microphone

  1. You should now be ready to use CaptionKit 🥳
